Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid (LABSA)

Description

Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid (LABSA) is an organic, sulfonic acid compound with a molecular formula typically represented as R-C₆H₄-SO₃H, where R is a linear alkyl chain. LABSA is a key synthetic ingredient in producing surfactants and detergents due to its excellent cleaning properties.

LABSA is produced by sulfonating linear alkylbenzene (LAB), derived from benzene’s alkylation with linear alkyls in the presence of a catalyst. The sulfonation process can be carried out using sulfuric acid, SO₃ gas, or oleum. Our LABSA has high water solubility and can lower surface tension.

It appears as a brownish viscous liquid. LABSA is biodegradable and environmentally friendly compared to branched alkylbenzene sulfonates. LABSA’s effectiveness in hard water makes it a preferred ingredient in detergent formulations. Its biodegradability contributes to a lower environmental impact. Safety is our top priority. LABSA is handled with care in our facilities, and we recommend using protective gear to prevent skin and eye irritation.
